UNESCO Official Meets With
Education Permanent Secretary

Begawan - Some 20 government personnel including Dato Paduka
Sheikh Haji Adnan Bin Sheikh Haji Othman, Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Education, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Directors as
well as senior officers from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of
Culture Youth and Sports, Ministry of Development, Ministry of
Communication, Ministry of Industry and - Primary Resources,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade attended a briefing yesterday
at the Main Conference Hall, Ministry of Education.
Delivering the briefing was Dr
Hubert Gijzen, Director of UNESCO Jakarta, who is on four-day visit
to Brunei. The briefing focused on the role and responsibilities of
UNESCO and the UNESCO office and the purpose was to inform the
ministries about UNESCO.
During the talk Dr Hubert Gijzen
talked about the roles, functions, budget of UNESCO, its activities
and the programmes it has conducted so far.
Dr Hubert Gijzen also paid a
courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture,
Youth and Sports and Ministry of Development.
Today he will pay a courtesy call
on the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications and
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In the afternoon a follow up
discussion will be held with relevant officers of the Ministry of
Education on areas of collaboration and assistance. Brunei
Darussalam has been a member of UNESCO since 2003.-- Courtesy of Borneo
