Woman Fined Over Beer For Engagement Party

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday fined a 46year-old woman $650 or a month in jail in default after she pleaded guilty to possession of uncustomed goods.

Sii Ley Ngiik was caught keeping 48 cans of Tiger Beer and 10 bottles of White Wine under the kitchen sink of her house at Kg Tanjung Bunut.

After a tip-off, Customs Preventive Officers conducted an inspection with the defendant's consent on September 7.

The defendant told the investigating personnel that the booze was bought by five Malaysian friends which they declared legally and was meant for her daughter's engagement party scheduled two days later. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
