Bomoh Jailed For Cheating Clients

Bandar Seri Begawan - The 39-year-old bogus bomoh was sentenced to one year and eight months in jail on four charges of cheating and other similar offences which were taken into consideration by the Bandar Magistrate's Court.

Bini bin Bakar took a total of $3,100 from the four victims by falsely representing himself as a `bomoh' who could assist the victims to make a change in-their lives. On July 18 at Kedai Yaminah in Kg Mata-Mata, Gadong, he tricked a woman into giving him $500 by making her believe that he could help her make more profits for her business through his prayers.

On August 1, he duped two young women at a salon in Gadong into giving him $300 by falsely saying that he could help change their spendthrift ways through his prayers. This was included in the second and third charges against the defendant.

On the fourth count, he cheated another woman by falsely saying that he could help her protect her shop through his prayers, and so deceived the woman to deliver $2,000 to him.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
