Five Caught In Narcotics Raid

Begawan - Three men aged 25, 27 and 28 years along with a
17year-old girl and a 25-year-old woman were apprehended by
personnel from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a raid
operation at a house in Kg Perpindahan Lambak Kanan.
The five were remanded on the
suspicion of being involved with drugs. The Bureau's enforcement
personnel during the raid successfully confiscated drugs believed to
be Syabu, estimated to be worth $1,000.
The drugs were found in four small
packets hidden in a small transparent container - and a brown metal
box. Also found at the scene were a weighing machine and several
empty packets believed to be used for packaging the drugs as well as
utensils used to consumee the drugs. All the five are currently
still being remanded. If found guilty, they are liable to be
prosecuted for trafficking of Syabu under Section 3(A) Misuse of
Drugs Act, Chapter 27, where the penalty for this offence is minimum
5 years jail and 5 strokes of the cane. The maximum penalty for the
said offence is 20 years imprisonment and 15 strokes of the cane.
If found guilty they are also
liable to be prosecuted for the offence of having in possession
equipment or apparatus used to consume and inhale drugs under
Section 7, Misuse of Drug Act, Chapter 27. Offenders face a maximum
sentence of 3 years' jail or a $10,000 fine, or both.
In this regard, the Bureau
continuously reminds the public that any involvement in misuse of
drugs activities is punishable with a heavy penalty. The Bureau
added that monitoring and prevention steps will continuously be
executed in ensuring a drugs-free environment.
