In The Can For Attacking Snowman
By Ignatius Stephen

Bandar Seri Begawan - Three Australian men who took the heat out on a snowman are in the police lock up in town now cooling their heels.

The three who were apparently drunk went on a rampage around midnight on Tuesday and smashed up Christmas decorations in front of the Lexus showroom in Gadong, the police said.

The damaged items included a life-sized snowman, reindeers and other decorations in colourful styrofoam the company had mounted to celebrate the season.

It was part of a more extensive decoration up on the hill slope nearby at the NBT premises put up a week ago that had been drawing crowds.

As a result of the drunken attack broken arms and legs and debris from the figurines covered the area.

The three were restrained by Gadong Properties security guards during the attack and the police promptly arrived at the scene.

"We are grateful for the quick action," said Mr Ninan Chacko, NBT Managing Director praising the police. The damage amounted to $23,000. "But we will soon clear the area and restore the snowman and other images to their original state," said Mr Chacko.

The police are questioning the three who are employed by a contractor to LNG and are expected to be charged in court. The detained men are all young in their 20's and had arrived in Brunei recently. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
