Massage Centres Called To Segregate Service According To Gender
By Azlan Othman

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Municipal authority has called on salon centres that offer massage services to segregate their services according to gender, failure of which would result in their licences revoked.

The call was made following joint inspections made by the Municipal and the Religious Syariah officers in broad daylight on December 12 and 18 on salon centres that provide such services without segregating male and female customers.

According to the Municipal Inspector on Licence (Private Unit), they must abide by the law whereby male masseurs only serve male customers.

The Syariah and Municipal officers could take actions against them for violating such regulations. It was found that some newly established salons failed to abide by such regulations.

It is also important for them to provide two exits for the two genders. "When applying for the licence, it is stated that each centre must have separate doors and exits. Not many operators know about these regulations," he said.

The Municipal officer added that they plan to bring along Health officials in joint operations to check the cosmetics being used by salon operators as well as on equipment used such as razor blades and scissors.

The Municipal Enforcement personnel from time to time also conduct spot checks on errant shop and restaurant owners as well as market stall vendors who had violated rules and regulations.

A recent spot check was carried out on errant foreign vendors operating at Tamu Kianggeh in the capital who had violated the work quota by operating as vegetable and fruit sellers when they are actually domestic helpers.

Spot checks are also carried out to inspect the cleanliness of restaurants or corner shops. If they fail to achieve the 70 per cent cleanliness level, they will be closed for a certain period of time for them to clean up and another inspection will be made before the restaurants are re-opened. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
