HSBC Brunei Recruitment Drive In
UK
By Huraizah Ahmad
Bandar Seri
Begawan - HSBC in Brunei has always been very active in its
drive to promote job opportunities and exciting challenges for local
talent, and recognises the great need to provide a rewarding career
for young graduates.
In 2006, various recruitment drives
were organised locally with educational institutions in the form of
career presentations, visits to the bank and private dialogues with
students.
One of the highlights this year was
a recruitment visit to Bruneian students in the United Kingdom. It
was the second overseas visit of its kind. HSBC Brunei made a
similar successful trip to Queensland, Australia in 2004, when
Brunei students were invited to career presentations by HSBC's
Manager of Human Resources and Training at three major universities
in Queensland.
In March this year, following a
successful recruitment career presentation to students of the
Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies, UBD, two HR
executives from HSBC flew to the UK to conduct similar presentations
to Brunei students there. Manager of HRD, Dk Fatimah PHM Jadid, and
Assistant Manager of HR, Mr Teo Seh Chien, traveled all over England
to meet and talk with them.
As part of a continuing commitment
to offer challenging and rewarding career opportunities to
graduates, the presentations was aimed at increasing the students'
knowledge of operations in the banking sector and raising awareness
of HSBC as "The Employer of Choice", which offers competitive
employee benefits including comprehensive training, career
development and the opportunity to develop to their full potential
in this exciting industry.
One stop in the tour was a visit to
Brunei students at Manchester University. Dk Fatimah and Seh Chien
gave them a career talk and were able to provide first hand insight
into recruitment, selection and development opportunities within the
bank. The students had time to talk and seek advice on recruitment
matters and careers directly with the two HSBC executives.
The itinerary also included career
presentations and individual consultations for students from around
London, over a three-day period. The presentations were very well
received by student attendees and many have expressed their
gratitude to the pair for the visit and for informing them of the
opportunities in HSBC.
The highlight of the tour was the
BruNotts Easter Games in Nottingham. Over 700 Brunei students from
various parts of UK and Ireland attended the one-day event at the
University of Nottingham. Students from London, Sheffield, Cardiff,
Scotland, Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester, Leeds, Southampton,
Newcastle Upon Tyne, Leicester and Nottingham were also present.
The HSBC pair was able to spend
time with many of the Bruneian students who visited the HSBC booth,
where they answered their many questions about careers with HSBC-in
Brunei.
The response from the students was
overwhelming and many expressed a keen interest on career
opportunities with a reputable, global organisation such as HSBC.
Shortly after the games, Sheikh Mohamad Radzi bin Sheikh Adnan,
Chairman for the Sponsorship Committee of the BruNotts Easter Games
2006, presented a token of appreciation to Mr Guy Priestley, CEO of
HSBC Brunei, for HSBC's sponsorship.
In his congratulatory note, Mr Guy
Priestley stressed on HSBC's strong continuing commitment in the
community as part of its corporate responsibility and will continue
to look for ways to provide support to educate and nurture locals
towards challenging career opportunities.-- Courtesy of Borneo
