Elderly Folks Celebrated At
Manggis Mall

Begawan - The Department of Community Development yesterday
celebrated 'International Day for the Elderly 2007,' bringing
together 600 elderly people at the Manggis Mall.
The celebration allowed the elders
a chance to demonstrate their vast capabilities, and also reminisce
on their efforts and services contributed towards the development of
the country.
Additionally, it also gave them the
chance to foster relations with families, community members and
various government agencies.
Present as guest of honour was
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Major General (Rtd) Dato
Seri Pahlawan Awg Hj Mohammad bin Hj Daud. Also in attendance were
the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youthand
Sports, and other officers from the ministry.
In her welcoming address,
Department of Community Development Director Datin Hajah Adina binti
Osman said that the International Day for the Elderly is marked
every October 1, as declared by the United Nations.
"Today's celebration involves the
elderly people from our country, and part of the aim is to reminisce
the services and good deeds they have contributed towards the
development of the community."
She highlighted that it is our
responsibility to care for the elderly by providing various quality
care for them.
To the delight of the elderly
people, at the event, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports
delivered his speech in the form of a poem.
Later in the day, attendees were
treated to a Tai Chi session, which also saw the participation of
the Minister. The Ministry of Health provided an on-site medical
