Women Jailed, Man Gets Lashes For Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - Four Filipino women and an Indonesian man were jailed after they pleaded guilty to overstaying in the country, before the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday. The Indonesian man will also receive three strokes of the cane for his offence.

Julita A. Solinap, Analisa Sia Reyes and Jean Barquilla Lupina overstayed after their social visit passes had expired, while Emmylou Bucog Sabasales overstayed after the expiry of her employment pass.

All of them were jailed for four months. The Indonesian, Musleh, was sentenced to three months in prison and three strokes of the cane for overstaying after the expiry of his employment pass.

All of the defendants were detained in a raid on December 18 conducted by Immigration Enforcement Personnel at several places in Brunei-Muara District.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
