By Kartika Rahman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The award of the prestigious 2007 Queen Elizabeth
II Chevening Scholarship has extended an invitation to Bruneians and
permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam to apply.
The United Kingdom's Foreign and
Commonwealth Office, through the British High Commission in Brunei,
is offering the scholarship for full-time postgraduate programme in
the UK for 2007-2008. Offered in over 150 countries, it enables
talented graduates and young professionals to become familiar with
the UK and gain skills that will benefit their countries.
The scheme aims to provide
opportunities for postgraduates to professionals who can demonstrate
both academic excellence and the potential to become leaders,
decision makers and opinion formers in any field.
The British High Commissioner Mr
John Saville said: "I am hoping more Bruneians will seize this
opportunity to apply for the scholarship as it is highly competitive
and aimed for the future leaders of Brunei. The programme will also
enrich them with more knowledge and experience as they mix with
professionals from other countries while they are in the UK."
Applicants received for the
Chevening Scholarship have increased over the years. So far 27
Bruneians have received the award since it was first introduced in

The value of the scholarship will cover tuition fees, living
