More Cars Go Missing In Miri

Bandar Seri Begawan - Another three Brunei-registered vehicles were stolen at Miri shopping complexes last week, prompting Brunei police to remind motorists to enhance security measures to beat car thieves while leaving their cars when shopping.

The three cars were reported stolen in Imperial Mall and Parkson shopping areas, police said yesterday.

Last Monday, the Borneo Bulletin reported four vehicles, transporting 18 family members were vandalized during a day trip to Kuching, Sarawak. Almost all the vehicles' windscreens were shattered.

Elsewhere in Brunei, three car break-ins and thefts and five cars were vandalized in a plot of empty land in Kg. Serdang, Bunga Melor car park in Seria and at a car park in Kg. Tamoi near the capital.

Items found missing were four teddy bears, sound system equipment like 12-inch woofer, two car speakers, a disc player, an amplifier and equaliser as well as two mobile phones. One car, Renault Clio was reported stolen which was parked at Jln 12 in Perpindahan Lambak Kanan

Three vicinities were broken into in Spg 1888 in Kg. Katimahar, behind Bangar wet market and Kg. LumapasJunjungan area leading to the loss of an electrical cable, Telecom main hole steel and two goats.

Meanwhile, two house break-ins and thefts were detected in Spg. 27, Kg. Lambak Kiri and at No. 177, Kg. Delima Satu leading to the loss of jewellery such as one gold ring, two gold bangles, three pearl bangles and one gold pendant. Two water taxi boats with 60-horsepower engines were reported stolen in Kg. Tamoi Ujong in Kampong Ayer.

Another six thefts were found in Spg 71 in Lorong 3 in Seria, Spg 246 in Kg. SgAkar, RBPC in Jerudong, Spg 235 in Kg. Kiarong, Jln Pasar Baru in Gadong, old airport flat and at a hall in Berakas Secondary School.

Items lost were one ‘moscod RTU rack' belonging to an oil firm, one handphone, an electrical cable, two gas cylinders and mini hi-fi set and $410 cash.

Two vandalism cases, three assaults leading to the arrest of two men, two warrants of arrest relating to debt leading to the arrest of a woman and a man, one selling alcoholic drinks at Kg Manggis Satu leading to the arrest of two men and one case of letter threat leading to the arrest of 19 year-old local woman, were also reported to the police. Other criminal cases recorded were the arrest of a 30-year-old foreigner for possessing what resembles a gun. In this case, the police received a tip-off which prompted them to search the suspect's workplace in Spg 24 in Jln Gadong.

Failing to locate the equipment, the police searched his house in Kg Sungai Buloh where they found the ‘gun'.

The police also detected two criminal breach of trust cases where a woman and a man in their 20's were detained. One misuse of drugs act case leading to the arrest of a local woman, two customs cases where three local men were detained, two immigration cases with four arrests and nine runaway employee cases were also detected.

One unpaid worker, one unreturned flight ticket, one verbal abuse, one drowning case, one fire outbreak, one SMS disturbance, three Labour Act violations, two cases of undesirable mishaps reported to the police, one runaway wife and one "dissatisfied" case were also reported.

As for accident cases, 25 cases were reported with one sustaining serious injury and nine sustaining minor injuries.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
