Villagers Vote For A Headman In
Gadong

Begawan - Of the 871 residents in Kampung Tungku and Kampung
Katok aged 18 and above and eligible to vote - only 290 turned up to
cast their votes for a new Ketua Kampung (village head).
The Brunei Muara District Officer,
Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Yussop bin Bakar was present to
witness the balloting tha took place at the Tungku Primary School.
Two candidates contested for the
post. 62 year old Awang Haji Tengah bin Haji Abdullah garnered 86
votes. He was a former staff of the Postal Services Department.
The other nominee, 59 year old
Awang Haji Ismail bin Haji Rajab, a former staff of the Royal Brunei
Armed Forces secured 199 "Yes" votes, making him eligible to be
considered by the Ministry of Home Affairs to take up the post of
Ketua Kampung for Kampung Tungku and Kampung Katok.
Both Kampung Tungku and Kampung
Katok are located in Mukim Gadong "A" with a population of more than
two thousand four hundred people. The post of ketua for Kampongs
Tungku and
Katok
was deputised by the Penghulu of Mukim Gadong "A", Awang Haji
Tahamit bin Nudin as of 1st April 2001.
Cooperation, strong support as well
as unity from the community are the criteria in attaining the
mission and vision towards the development of a village.
Wise leadership of a Ketua Kampung
in guiding the community of all walks of life - is among the
contributing factors in achieving the mission the villagers were
