Bandar Seri
Begawan - Hundreds of people gathered yesterday at the Brunei
International Airport to bid farewell to the last batch of Bruneians
leaving for Saudi Arabia to perform the haj pilgrimage this year.
About 150 Bruneians, who make up
the sixth batch of haj pilgrims to leave the country, went on board
the 7.30pm flight to Medinah. Bruneians pilgrims who are already in
Saudi Arabia are experiencing slightly chilly weather, according to
an officer from H.T.H. Travel Agency.
"It has been a safe and trouble
free journey to Saudi for the previous batches, Thank God," he said,
"although the weather might be a little bit too cold for those who
are accustomed to the hot and humid weather in this country."
According to the officer, in
Medinah, temperatures dropped to nine Celsius degrees while it is
about 20 Celsius degrees celsius in Mekkah.
Those who are already in Medinah
are currently performing prayers at the AnNabawi Mosque, the second
holiest mosque in Islam after the Al-Haram Mosque in Mekkah. The An-Nabawi
Mosque has undergone extensive expansions and decorations by past
Islamic rulers after it was first built by Prophet Muhammad.
The tomb of Prophet Muhammad PBUH
is located in the mosque, with other early Muslim leaders such as
Abu Bakr and Umar ibn al-Khattab buried beside the Prophet. The
first batch of haj pilgrims who left the Sultanate on December 7th
are expected to arrive home by January 7th, according to the
official, while the last batch are expected to be home by January
14th. -- Courtesy of
