Detained Indonesian Women Blame
'Agent' For Expired Passes

Begawan - Three foreign nationals were apprehended yesterday
in a routine inspection conducted by the Law Enforcement Section,
Department of Immigration and National Registration.
The seven-personnel operation led a
Chief Immigration Officer from the Law Enforcement Section was
conducted at rented house in Jalan Madewa Kg Bunut at 315pm.
A 27-year-old Indonesian woman who
failed to provide valid immigration documents was caught at a room
in the rented house in Kg Bunut while staying with three other
people.
She was `taken to the Law
Enforcement Office for investigation. After checking through the
office computer system, if was found that her immigration pass
expired on September 12, 2006 but she claimed to have passed her
passport to an Indonesian woman who was acting as an "agent".
Another 24-year-old Indonesian
woman who failed to provide valid immigration documents was detained
at the same rented house. Her immigration pass expired on July 21
and she also alleged that she had handed her passport to an
Indonesian woman "agent".
Meanwhile, an Indonesian man was
released after it was found that his immigration pass is still
valid. The inspection was a follow-up to a raid on December 13, 2006
at a commercial complex in the capital where two other Indonesian
women who had no documents were found staying with two other men
whom they claimed to be their "brother" and "cousin".
According to their statement, they
had handed their passports to an "agent" who is suspected to be on
the run.
In a separate operation conducted
by the Customs Prevention and Intelligence Section, two foreign
nationals were detained during a patrol in the waters of Kg Sungai
Bunga yesterday morning.
After a check was made through the
Law Enforcement Section's computer system, it was found that one of
them, a 24 -year-old Filipino, has an immigration pass which expired
on December 10, 2006. While the other foreign national was released
