KB Libraries Keep Children Busy
By Norhayati Zalani
Kuala Belait
- Come school holidays, libraries will be at their busiest
entertaining children who come to spend their time reading or taking
part in the various activities organised especially for them.
In the Belait District where there
are three main libraries, activities have began since the beginning
of the holidays on December 4 and will go on until December 16. Hj
Shahrin Abdullah, a librarian at one of the libraries said that at
the end of the year, they usually organise some fun activities for
the children. "We prepare a number of indoor activities such as
colouring, games, , handicraft-making, quizzes and also 'pustaka RIA'
for children aged between seven and 12 and activities for youth as
well," he said.
"I'm sure that with this variety of
activities, children and youth alike have a variety of choice of
activities they like best. Wedid all these because we want to help
the children and youth to have some kind of activities during their
school break," he said. He said he appreciated the parents' efforts
to bring their children to the library to join in the activities.
"Most of the children here really
enjoy reading books even though there are a lot of cyber cafes
nowadays where they can go to. We also conduct some outdoor
activities such as visiting museums and sports activities. I hope
with these activities the children will continue to participate in
them in the future," he added.
He said they are trying to improve
the library services for children through organising more fun
activities and the use of computers since children nowadays are more
into cyber technology
"Unlike 10 years ago, the library
was one of the favourite places for children to go during their
school holidays, but now with new cyber technology, children would
rather choose it because it is much easier.
That is why we try to improve our
services through conducting activities which are fun for them and
introducing a computer corner, where they can learn and develop
their minds and creativities in art work and others," he said. -- Courtesy of
