Court Postpones Sentencing Of
Bogus Bomoh

Begawan - The Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday postponed
the sentencing of a39-year-old bogus bomoh to December 20.
Bini
bin Bakar, a Bruneian, was arrested in neighbouring Labuan by police
there on November 27 and handed over to the Royal Brunei Police
Force the next day. He is being remanded until the sentencing date.
Charges preferred by DPP Azrimah
Rahman against the defendant state that the defendant had cheated a
woman by falsely representing himself to her that he could assist
her in making her business more profitable through his prayers and
induced the victim to deliver $500 to him at a shop in Kg Mata-Mata,
Gadong on July 18.
On the second and third counts, the
defendant cheated two persons by falsely representing that he could
assist the victims to change their spendthrift ways through his
prayers and deceived them to deliver $300 to him at a beauty salon
in Gadong on August 1.
Magistrate Zelda Skinner heard from
the prosecution that the fourth offence was committed on June 3 at
Rimba Complex where he cheated a woman by falsely representing
himself that he could assist her to protect her shop through his
prayers and deceived her to deliver $2,000 to him.
On each of the charges, the
defendant faces an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years
