Quality Service A Top Priority
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - "Quality service for customers now includes
management and fulfilling needs within a short period.
The rapid business environment
changes have left an impact on customer expectations. In this
context, there is a need to review the system and existing work
process."
This was said by Belait District
Officer, Haji Mohamad bin Haj i Abd Rahman, at the launching of
customers week and exhibition of government departments in Belait
under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
"The old mindset of considering
customers a burden, stipulator or a person who needs to be in
control, should be transformed into `partnership' or `VIP'. We
should create convenience for customers in attaining our services
and fulfil their expectation and needs," he added.
To face such challenges an
organisation should continuously improve and apply `best practices'
through strengthening its human resource by creating knowledgeable
workers who are able to deliver customer-friendly services, the
district officer said.
He added that customers week was
part of efforts to strengthen public relations, fill the
communication gap with stakeholders while building a better
corporate image.
Through this activity, customers
have the opportunity to gain further insight into the working
process of a particular company, while the company is able to obtain
detailed information on problems their customers face in order to
improve their services.
Hj
Mohamad called for delivery of services and products to be of high
quality and in line with customers' expectations. Such practice
should then be incorporated into the organisation and integrated
into all its activities and business process.
He added that the business
environment has transformed rapidly due to information technology
and globalisation, and as such, there is a need to adapt to such
changes.
There should be a paradigm shift
towards a more conducive and flexible level of management so that
the organisation would - become a learning organisation, he
concluded.
Meanwhile, the event's chairman,
Acting AssistantBelait District Officer, Awang Haji Muhammad Ibrahim
bin Haji Juma'at, in his speech said the customers_ week, held for
the first time, is participated by five government departments under
the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The aim of the event is to expose
the public to its services and working process so that there is
transparency between department officials and the public. It is also
a good opportunity for the public to make inquiries into the
department's services and products.
Departments participating in
customers week are Belait District Department, Kuala Belait/Seria
Municipal Department, Labour Department, Immigration and National
Registration Department and Fire and Rescue Department. The event is
open to the public from 8am till 4pm and will end tomorrow. -- Courtesy of Borneo
