Three Off On Brunei Mission

Bandar Seri Begawan - True to its commitment to Asean, Brunei is sending three officers for talks in Jakarta from Dec 13-15 for the establishment of an Asean Humanitarian Centre.

They comprise two officers from the National Disaster Management Centre (Ministry of Home Affairs), Senior Supt Pg Sabli bin Pg Damit and Senior Supt Lim Hock Guan, along with an officer from Asean Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade).

The discussions are to collaborate the functions of AHA Centre based on the terms of reference in Asean Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response and current needs, to determine critical inputs to enable the AHAC to function effectively, to identify existing capacities and capabilities in member countries and relevant stakeholders in the region which could provide or support these inputs and based on these lastly to propose possible next steps and initial activities to make the centre operational in 2007.

United Nations and other international organisations in promoting regional collaboration in order to establish effective mechanisms for Asean member countries to pursue together disaster reduction and response towards sustainable development.
