Bandar Seri Begawan - Yesterday saw the start of the Brunei segment for a Leadership Development Programme jointly organised by the Public Service Institute of the Public Service Department, Brunei Darussalam, and Institute Tadbir Awam Negara Malaysia (INTAN).

The 30 participants from Brunei and Malaysia, comprising middle-class management public officers, were welcomed yesterday by the Director of the Public Service Institute, Hj Junaidi bin Hj Omar, at the institute.

In his welcoming speech, the director hoped that the programme will become an annual event for INTAN and Brunei. The first leg of the programme saw 14 middle-class management public officers from Brunei go to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a two-way learning programme.

Now it is Brunei's turn to host the Leadership Development Programme, which will proceed till December 16. The programme is aimed at helping participants to develop new skills in dealing with current challenges and to ensure the skills acquired remain relevant to the stakeholders and the public.

It helps participants to understand the ever changing nature of the public service environment and to enhance their knowledge and skills in achieving organisational excellence.

The event also provides a platform for better networking among officers from the public sector of both countries through exchanging of ideas on the latest development in the sector and sharing of experience on the modernisation of the public sector.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
