UBD To Take Part In Asean
University Games In Hanoi

Begawan - Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) will be
participating in the 13th Asean University Games 2006 in Hanoi,
Vietnam starting December 16 until 22.
Yesterday, the handing over of the
Brunei national flag ceremony was held at the Chancellor Hall, UBD.
Present as the guest of honour at
the ceremony was Vice Chancellor of UBD, Dato Paduka DrAwang Hj
Ismail bin Hj Duraman. Also in attendance were some of the 55
participants and an officer.
The handing over ceremony began
with a welcoming speech by "Dekan Pelajar" UBD, who is also the head
of the contingent, Pengiran Dr Hj Mohammad bin Pengiran Damit, which
was followed by a short speech by the guest of honour. In the guest
of honour's speech, he said this is not the first time that UBD
participate in Asean University Games.
He hoped that participating
athletes will bring good names to UBD and our country. He also
reminded them to obey the rules while staying in a foreign country
and get accustomed to Hanoi's environment and culture.
Meanwhile, the UBD contingent will
be leaving for Hanoi, Vietnam on December 14. Some of 39 athletes
from UBD will be participating in five games, which include karate
do, badminton, football, pencak silat and athletic.
Recently, the UBD participants took
part in the Asean University Games in Indonesia, Kalimantan and had
successfully won three bronzes.
At end of the ceremony, the guest
of honour handed over the Brunei national flag to Pengiran Dr Hj
Mohammad, as well as the reading of surah al-Fatihah to bless the
