Carnival 2006
By Naj
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Danau Village Youth Carnival 2006 officially
came to a close yesterday following a ceremony officiated by Deputy
Minister of Home Affairs cum chief guest Dato Paduka Haji Dani bin
Haji Ibrahim.
In his speech, the guest of honour
said that His Majesty has declared August 1 to be National Youth
Day, commencing this year.
This year, the National Youth Day
carries the theme `Our Youth is the Future'. This is a message for
everybody to work together not only to produce highly educated
youths but also to cultivate quality leaders, the chief guest added.
Through the Ministry of Education,
the government has provided numerous facilities for education from
primary to tertiary levels.
Great facilities, infrastructure
and teaching staff alone are not enough to create successful youths.
The youths themselves need to be responsible, motivated and hard
working to achieve a bright future.
The youths need to realise that as
a citizen of this country, they should prepare themselves with
knowledge and expertise so they can later contribute to the
development of the country, he-added.
The day saw the guest of honour
presenting certificates to personnel from government agencies,
private companies and individuals who participated in the carnival.
The ceremony opened with a
march-past headed by the Prisons Department marching band. The
participants included personnel from PAMDA, Danau Youth Association,
PESAKA Keriam Youth Association, Tutong Scout Association and Brunei
Vespa Club. The chief guest later toured some of the booths set up
by government agencies.-- Courtesy of Borneo
