What's In A Name? Fire & Rescue

Bandar Seri Begawan - "The change in name of the Fire Services Department to the Fire and Rescue Department in March 2006 is a paradigm that needs to be upheld with full dedication by all levels.

"We should equip ourselves with knowledge and expertise in related fields to achieve a vision, mission and strategic plan."

This was said by Fire and Rescue Department Acting Assistant Superintendent cum Lambak Kanan Training Centre Deputy Commandant Abd Sufriyan bin Hj Abd Hamid during the finals of a quiz held over the weekend.

The quiz - held at the Fire and Rescue Department Headquarters - was open to personnel from the Women Operation and Operation C Branch nch of the Berakas/Lambak Kanan Fire Station.

Present as chief guest was SSFR Pg Abu Bakar bin Pg Hj Abd Rahman. In his speech, Sufriyan said the quiz would test participants' knowledge, ensuring they would become more competitive, credible and ultimately excellent personnel.

A written test to select the final two top teams was held in November. Twelve teams from different branches and units sat for the test, which touched on fire engineering science, fire safety, fire operation and fire management and administration.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
