Brunei, Pakistan Hold Inaugural
Defence Talks

Begawan - The inaugural joint defence working committee
meeting between the ministries of defence of Brunei Darussalam and
the Islamic Republic of Pakistan took place at the - Officers Mess
of Bolkiah Garrison, Berakas yesterday morning.
The meeting is a follow-up to His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's visit
to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in May 2004, which illustrated
the commitment to enhancing relations between the two countries.
Yesterday's meeting was co-chaired
by Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Bin Haji Sirat, Permanent Secretary of
Brunei's Ministry of Defence, and Lt General (Rtd) Tariq Waseem
Ghazi, Secretary Defence of Ministry of Defence, the Islamic
Republic of Pakistan.
Also present were the Pakistani
High Commissioner, senior officials from the ministries of defence
of both countries as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade, Brunei Darussalam.
Among the issues discussed were
matters pertaining to the Terms of Reference of the Joint Defence
Committee, bilateral training and courses, intelligence exchange,
logistics cooperation, exchange of visits and exchange of views on
regional and international security issues. The meeting will be an
annual event, which will be hosted alternately by both countries.
