Berita Minggu Apologises To HRH Prince Mohamed

Bandar Seri Begawan - Berita Minggu, a Singapore Sunday Malay newspaper, in its December 10 (2006) edition apologised to His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Brunei Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, for wrongly inserting his picture instead of HRH Prince Jefri Bolkiah in an article published December 3 2006.

The Reuters report stated that HRH Prince Jefri Bolkiah sued two Britons in a US court, saying they bilked him out of millions through, property scams.

Prince Jefri, who counts the Palace Hotel in New York among his personal assets, claimed that Faith Zaman and her husband Thomas William Derbyshire conned him by posing as English lawyers.

He had hired the pair as attorneys in 2004, paying them US$1 million ayear, and Zaman then assumed several high level positions in companies in charge of Prince Jefri's vast real estate holdings, according to the lawsuit filed in US District Court in Manhattan.

The Berita Minggu in its apology statement stated that the regrettable error could induce readers to believe that HRH Prince Mohamed Bolkiah had acted willfully.
