Bangladesh High Commission Marks
SAARC Charter Day

Begawan - The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam
observed the SAARC Charter Day yesterday.
The event was held to commemorate
of the signing of SAARC Charter on December 8, 1985 at the first
summit held in Dhaka. The onus is on Bangladesh, as they continue to
hold the SAARC Chair till its handing over to India at the 14th
Summit in April 2007 in New Delhi.
The South Asian Association for
Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is a regional intra-government
organisation of eight South Asian countries.
To mark the day, the High
Commission of Bangladesh arranged a discussion meeting on the
significance of the day and outcome of the 13th SAARC Summit at its
premises.
Among foreign officials present
were Ambassador of Japan, Acting High Commissioner of India and
Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan. Also present were deputy heads
of mission of Asean countries, a representative from the China
Embassy, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade
and members of the Bangladesh community.
Mr
Md Hedayetul Islam Chowdhury, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to
Brunei presided over the meeting.
A message by President and Chief
Adviser of Caretaker Government of Bangladesh, Prof lajuddin Ahmed,
was read out in the meeting by First Secretary of Bangladesh High
Commission, Mr A S M Waheeduzzaman.
Later, the High Commissioner of
Bangladesh presented a briefing on SAARC and the outcome of the 13th
