Bandar Seri Begawan - The Brunei Shell Petroleum Company and government agencies in the Belait District held a joint emergency exercise codenamed "Exercise GERAK" on Thursday.

The objectives of the exercise were primarily to test BSP's emergency response system and its interface with the relevant agencies like government emergency services, as well as its readiness to respond to an emergency or crisis.

The exercise was conducted by BSP's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department.

A number of organisations were mobilised in the course of the exercise, such as the BSP's Emergency Response Team, Panaga Health Centre and government agencies namely the Fire and Rescue Services' Operational "B" Division; the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital; the Panaga Police Station; and the Belait District's Royal Brunei Police Force.

The "Exercise GERAK" operations were observed by officials from the Panaga Police Station, the Fire and Rescue Services Department, the Internal Security Department, the Ministry of Health and from BSP itself.
