Workshop Scrutinised By Immigration Personnel
By Liza Mohd

Bandar Seri Begawan - Workshops employing foreign labour are not spared from being scrutinised by the Belait Immigration Enforcement personnel.

In a-recent operation, a 55-year-old Filipino man was arrested at a workshop in Sungai Liang, where he was doing painting works on vehicles. He was brought in for investigation after Immigration officials discovered that his working pass had expired for a period of 35 days.

Meanwhile, a Thai national believed to be a partner of the workshop's owner was also issued with a special pass which requires his presence to facilitate the investigation of the case.

If found guilty, the Filipino man could face charges under Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Section 17 which states that those who stay in Brunei after their Immigration passes have expired could be fined, and violators staying less than 90 days after the expiry date would be punishable by imprisonment of not more than six months or a fine of $4,000. The employer could also face a charge under Chapter 55(1) (e) for providing employment to Immigration violators. The operation was carried out by five Immigration officials led by a Senior Immigration Officer.

The Belait Immigration Enforcement Section stated that it will continue to conduct patrol and inspection from time to, time. Therefore public cooperation is vital in helping the authority to wipe out Immigration violators in the country. They can call its hotline number at 3331879/ 3341938 or 2383555/2383777.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
