Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Tanjong Maya Assocation (PERTAMA) recently
received the Association of Southeast Asian (Asean) Ten Accomplished
Youth Organisations (TAYO) Award, which was presented in recognition
of it being the best-run youth organisation in Brunei.
PERTAMA
President Haji Ismail bin Parun accepted the award in Manila on
November 26, on behalf of the association.
Accompanying him were Haji Osman
bin BPKDPSS Haji Md Tamin and Alinordin Haji Matdiah from the Brunei
Youth Council (MBB). The event was organised by the Committee for
Asean Youth Cooperation (CAYC) and Philippine National Youth Council
(NYC).
PERTAMA
was selected to receive the award by virtue of it winning the local
Outstanding Youth Association 2004 Award. Each Asean member country
sent one representative from its best organisation.
During the local Outstanding Youth
Association 2004 event, PERTAMA (Tutong District) emerged victorious
in the `Management' category.
The `Economic' category was won by
Tiga Kampong Bersatu Association (TIBA) from the Brunei-Muara
District, while the Brunei Darussalam Red Crescent Association from
the Belait District emerged victorious in the `Project' category.
The award is to acknowledge Asean
youth associations that show continued excellence with regard to
management and administration, and implementing activities and
projects in the field of economic, community and religion.
MBB
Deputy President Pg Hj Suhaimi Pg Wahid acknowledged the management
quality of PERTAMA.
"It has, by far, been the best run
youth organisation in the country. It keeps files which are dated
back many years ago," he said.
Meanwhile, Hj Osman attended a CAYC
meeting in Manila at the same time, where discussions were held on
the Asean youth projects planned for the next two years. The
projects of each member country were read out by representatives
during the meeting.-- Courtesy of Borneo
