KB Restaurant Ordered Closed
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Another restaurant in the Belait District felt the
wrath of tough cleanliness laws in Brunei, as it was ordered to shut
yesterday afternoon on the grounds of unsatisfactory cleanliness.
The Enforcement Unit at KB/Seria
Municipal Department and Belait Health Department in its earlier
inspection discovered entertainment equipment stored in the kitchen,
dirty floor condition, open lid dustbin and unclean storage of
kitchen utensils. Apart from that, the enforcement officials also
found that the restaurant's motor exhaust fan was not functioning
which led to inappropriate room ventilation.
A damaged refrigerator was being
kept at the back area of the restaurant and the restaurant's chef
was not wearing the right attire.
The restaurant located in the
Belait Industrial area was graded 65 percent below the average
standard level of 70 per cent, which mandates the restaurants'
closure for a period of two weeks.
The restaurant is required to cant'
out major cleaning works to ensure that it complies with the
standard and level of cleanliness required by officials from both
government agencies.
According to the Head Enforcement
Unit, the shutdown was to deter restaurant operators from neglecting
their duties in ensuring their employees were hygienic and that food
preparation was carried out in a sanitary manner. He also added that
good housekeeping should also be maintained, particularly in food
storage.
There are 86 registered restaurants
in Kuala Belait and Seria within the control of the Municipal
Department. Letter of reminders and warnings are issued continuously
by the department to ensure their level of cleanliness are
maintained and they abide with the rules and conditions set under
the business license.-- Courtesy of Borneo
