Bunei-Muara Holds Customer Day

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei-Muara District Office launched its Customer Day yesterday morning at its premises at old Airport road.

The Customer Day was organised in line with the launching of the Customer Week of the Ministry of Home Affairs and departments under it. Officiating the ceremony was the Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer, Awang Hj Jamain bin Momin.

Hj Jamain in his welcoming address said, "The aim of launching the Customer Day is to provide an indepth understanding on the functions and roles of the Brunei-Muara District Office and the various divisions under it to the public, especially customers of the department.

"As a department that provides satisfaction-oriented services to the public, a number of steps has been taken by the Brunei-Muara District Office to cater to the needs of the public.

Among the moves to raise the standards of its services are a revamp of the organisation structure of the department, raising the skills of staff and officers as well as increasing the number of workforce and instilling teamwork."

The Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer said, "The tasks handled by the district office have become increasingly complex and challenging."

These tasks include the development of public facilities, progress in economic activities for residents in mukims and villages,' care for underprivileged families and orphans, repairs of houses for underprivileged families, the breakdown of empty houses at water villages and others, he said, adding that the department also has to face public complaints which need attention and call for remedial actions.

He also urged staff of the department to be cooperative and responsive to the needs of the public, particularly on issues of quality services.

Highlighting on its improvements, he said the department has managed to overcome bureaucracy and the lengthy time needed in processing miscellaneous licences. The time required for processing applications of miscellaneous licences has been reduced from 30 days to 21 days and from 14 days to 10 days for renewal of miscellaneous licences.

He also called on the public not to misuse miscellaneous licences and to abide by their conditions.

After the speech, Awang Hj Jamain bin Momin launched the Customer Day followed by the presentation of miscellaneous licences to 25 recipients.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
