Food companies seek Gulf Foothold

Begawan - The ten companies from Brunei Darussalam
participating at the Food Expo 2006 at the Oman International
Exhibition Centre in Muscat that ended on Tuesday got an opportunity
to obtain bulk orders for their products from traders, importers,
wholesalers and retailers in the Gulf countries who visited the
event.
The Food Expo 2006 was an
international exhibition that showcased the latest catering and
kitchen equipment, food and beverage, packaging products, hotel and
restaurant supplies.
This year's edition of the event
featured over 55 exhibitors, including 25 companies from other parts
of the world. Brunei Darussalam had the largest number of
participants among the countries at the exhibition through the
efforts of its Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, according
to the organisers.
The Brunei pavilion housed ten
companies representing various types of products ranging from canned
goods, chilli sauces and halal meat products to biscuits, pineapple
tarts and kitchen accessories.
The Brunei companies said they
hoped to find local partners or distributors to market their
products in Oman or Gulf countries. A new energy drink was also
introduced at the expo for the first time in Oman with the
participation of Battery Energy Drink as the sponsor of Food Expo
2006.
According to organisers, nine
companies from the United Arab Emirates also took part in Food Expo
2006 to present their products to potential major clients in Oman.
In addition, modern kitchen equipment from Italy and Germany,
various types of packaging products, agricultural supplies and
cleaning systems for hotels and restaurants were also on display.
Food Expo 2006 was mainly sponsored
by AKAH Najwani & Partners LLC, the largest catering equipment
supplier in the sultanate which is marking its golden jubilee this
year.
Other major local participants
included A' Saffa Poultry Farms SAOG General Electric & Trading Co.
LLC, Sharikah Fanniyah Omaniyah (Muscat) LLC, Al Bayader
International LLC, Matrah Cold Stores LLC, Sohar Poultry Co. SAOQ
and Oman Gulf Enterprises. Food Expo is also supported, by the Oman
