HRH Calls For Innovation In
Nursing Sector

Begawan - The nursing profession must rise to the challenges
of meeting patients' expectations as they are now better educated
and well-informed on quality healthcare services, said Her Royal
Highness Princess Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah yesterday.
Speaking at the opening of the 7th
Biennial International Nursing Conference at the Rizqun
International Hotel, Her Royal Highness said nurses and midwives
'represent the leaders in patient care.
Their ability to find new solutions
to increase patients' level of comfort and care has a direct impact
upon the success of any healthcare system," Her Royal Highness said,
highlighting the role of nurses and midwives in providing high
healthcare standards through innovation.
"Innovation lies at the heart of
advancement in any field," Her Royal Highness said, adding that
nurses and midwives now have more tools to improve their learning
capacities, thanks to advances in information and communication
technology. "Nurses and midwives today have much more direct access
to academic resources, experience sharing, online medical journals
and the latest development in best nursing and midwifery practices,"
she said.
Her Royal Highness also said the
resources brought about from the advances in technology provide a
basis for lifelong learning process for healthcare professionals.
"This process is instrumental to innovation, allowing new ideas to
be rapidly communicated, discussed and explored by a worldwide
community of healthcare professionals, Her Royal Highness said.
She pointed out the nursing
profession has been encouraged to pursue an agenda of innovation
through the continuous acquisition of academic' expertise.
"Healthcare will always be a top
priority in our national development goal and this is perhaps best
reflected in an infant mortality rate that is considered low, even
by the standards of a developed country," Her Royal Highness added.
Her Royal Highness also consented
to present an innovation award to Jainah Musa, an education officer
at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Nursing
College for her dedication in the nursing profession.
Spanning a career of 24 years,
48-year-old Jainah was one of the pioneers in the establishment of
the curriculum for the education in midwifery.
The three day 7th International
Nursing Conference, which carries the theme "Innovation in Nursing
and Midwifery: Practice, Education, Management and Research," is
organised by the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah
Nursing College.
More than 30 local and foreign
speakers will deliver speeches while over 300 participants including
