Ex-Army Officer At World Veterans

Begawan - A former army officer with the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces is currently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the 25th
World Veterans Federation (WVF) Conference at Kuala Lumpur
Convention Centre beginning Saturday until Dec 7.

Mohd Sutan bin Daim is attending the conference on his personal
capacity. The Brunei Ex-Army Association did not send any
participants officially this year because of unforeseen
circumstances, said a spokesperson.
The WVF summit is held once in
three years with the last one held in Johannesburg, South Africa in
2003. Founded in Paris on Nov 29, 1950, the WVF is a nongovernment
organisation made up of veterans associations with a membership of
30 million people. It is aimed at uniting veterans, protecting their
rights and championing their welfare besides promoting world peace.
The WVF is an international
non-governmental organisation which brings together associations of
those who have experienced the sufferings of war, fighting side by
side or facing each other in combat, and who want to contribute to
the establishment of a more peaceful, just and free world based on
the principles of the United Nations Charter and the International
Bill of Human Rights.
Meanwhile, commemorative stamps and
first-day covers were issued by Pos Malaysia Bhd commencing Monday
in conjunction with the five-day 25th World Veterans Federation, (WVF)
Conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
The stamps are available in three
denominations depicting different designs, namely 30 cents (WVF
logo), 50 cents (25th WVF Conference) and RM1 (National Monument)
while the first-day cover is priced at 30 cents and the folder at
