Ex-Army Officer At World Veterans Federation Meet By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - A former army officer with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces is currently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the 25th World Veterans Federation (WVF) Conference at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre beginning Saturday until Dec 7.

Hj Mohd Sutan bin Daim is attending the conference on his personal capacity. The Brunei Ex-Army Association did not send any participants officially this year because of unforeseen circumstances, said a spokesperson.

The WVF summit is held once in three years with the last one held in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2003. Founded in Paris on Nov 29, 1950, the WVF is a nongovernment organisation made up of veterans associations with a membership of 30 million people. It is aimed at uniting veterans, protecting their rights and championing their welfare besides promoting world peace.

The WVF is an international non-governmental organisation which brings together associations of those who have experienced the sufferings of war, fighting side by side or facing each other in combat, and who want to contribute to the establishment of a more peaceful, just and free world based on the principles of the United Nations Charter and the International Bill of Human Rights.

Meanwhile, commemorative stamps and first-day covers were issued by Pos Malaysia Bhd commencing Monday in conjunction with the five-day 25th World Veterans Federation, (WVF) Conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The stamps are available in three denominations depicting different designs, namely 30 cents (WVF logo), 50 cents (25th WVF Conference) and RM1 (National Monument) while the first-day cover is priced at 30 cents and the folder at RM5.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
