Technical Challenge For Students & Teachers

Bandar Seri Begawan - Twenty four students and eight teachers of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Arabic Religious Secondary Girls School participated in a Tech Challenge competition on Saturday.

The competition was organised by the school's Science Department to develop problem-solving skills amongst teachers and students.

The Turquoise House emerged as overall champion among the four teams. Head of Sports and Recreational Unit, Cikgu Hj Shahnon Hj Ahmad gave the prizes to the winners.

The four participating teams were given two tasks: First, build in 45 minutes a small aircraft, using drinking straws, cello tape, plasticine, scissors, satay sticks, which can fly in a curved path. They were judged on points earned from the aircraft's landing position.

Second, design in 30 minutes a costume from recycled materials (like newspapers) for a National Day parade.

The finished costume was judged on design, durability, planning, materials and presentation. Held for the first time, it incorporated some elements of fun and competition and encouraged co-operative group effort and effective use of individual skills and knowledge.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
