Ministry Of Home Affairs Launches
Customer's Week By James

Begawan - Ministry of Home Affairs and departments under it
yesterday launched its Customer's Week at the Dewan Muhibah of
Brunei-Muara district office.
Present to officiate the ceremony
was Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Adanan,
Minister of Home Affairs. Also present were Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa
Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Hj Dani Bin Hj Ibrahim, Deputy Minister
of Home Affairs together with Permanent Secretaries and Awang Haji
Othman bin Hj Abd Ghafar, senior administrative officer at the
Ministry in his capacity as the organising chairman.
The Minister of Home Affairs in his
welcoming remark said that the aim of organising the Customer's Week
was to give better exposure or transparency on services and
guidelines to processing application with related departments under
the ministry.
"The Customer's Week is important
and very significant for all stakeholders of the Ministry of Home
Affairs and departments under it," he said. "The Customer's Week
also served as a platform to directly interact with the customers on
understanding the guideline of processing application as well as to
give opportunity for customers to get in-depth explanation on any
problems faced."
Speaking of challenges, the
Minister said that one of the challenges usually faced by public
services is on how the services can be delivered with more
efficiency and fulfil the satisfaction of the customers.
"It's a continuous process whereby
each organisation need to be more proactive, innovative, responsive
and customer-focused," he said. "The challenges needs to be faced by
all staff and officers of the ministry with full commitment in line
with the ministry's mission of ensuring excellent services and to
raise harmony as well as to develop a balanced social economic
community."
Highlighting some of the
significance of excellence in customer's services, he said that it
would not only give satisfaction to customers but also raise the
image and credibility of an organisation.
The Minister of Home Affairs also
said that the Department of Immigration and National Registration
had accelerated the process of issuing passport from 30 days to only
five days for those in BSB and five days for KB applicants.
For the process of issuing visas,
it took 21 days back in 1994 but now, it takes only two days. The
process of issuing Identity Cards now is much more faster than
before, where it took 30 days to process an IC in 1994 but now, it
only takes five days for yellow and purple IC and 14 days for green
IC.
Another department is the district
office where the process of processing miscellaneous licences now
takes only 21 days and 10 days for renewal process. "As staff
working under the Ministry of Home Affairs, we have to double the
efforts and be professional, committed, competent, responsive and
proactive in any affairs related to the core business of the
ministry and departments under it," the minister said.
After the launching ceremony, a
dialogue was held with Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri
Setia Awang Hj Adanan and those who attended the ceremony which
involved customers of the Ministry and departments under it,
business community, village consultative councils and head of
villages.
Before concluding the ceremony, the
Minister of Home Affairs visited the exbibition booths which
displayed products and client charter of each respective
