HM Sends Condolences To
Philippines

Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam, consented yesterday to send his condolences to
Philippine President Gloria Arroyo over the deaths caused by the
typhoon Durian-triggered mudslides and floods in her country.
In the message, distributed through
a press release from his office, His Majesty as well as the
government and the people of Brunei Darussalam expressed their'
heartfelt condolences and sympathies towards the government and the
people of the Republic of the Philippines, especially to the
bereaved families of the victims of the disaster. Some 406 were
reported dead with another 398 missing in the, Philippines after-
the Durian triggered giant mudslides that swept away entire
villages.
The death toll is expected to rise
as roads are cleared and rescue teams reach communities isolated
after being hit by the typhoon which also destroyed communications,
power and transport links.
