Special Athletes Home To A Hero's
Welcome

Begawan - Brunei special athletes to the 9th FESPIC Games in
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, returned home in a hero's welcome on
Saturday.
On hand to greet members of the
Brunei contingent at the airport were the Director of Community
Development, Datin HjhAdina binti Othman, as well as officers from
her department.
Brunei won a bronze meal in the
Games - which involved physically challenged athletes from the Far
East and South Pacific region courtesy of Awg Sibuang bin Hj Kalong,
with his javelin throw of 30.57 metres.
In an interview with the Borneo
Bulletin, Awg Sibuang said: "I am very happy to win a medal for the
country," especially in the face of stiff competition from athletes
who hailed from traditional track and field powerhouses.
On his future plans, Awg Sibuang
added: "I trained for eight months for this meet, and I will
continue to train to prepare for the next competition, and try to
win more medals for Brunei."
The chief secretary for the Brunei
contingent, Abd Rahman bin Hj Apong, said: "We are proud of our
athletes, for despite not winning more medals, many of them managed
to record their personal best in their events."
He said competition at the Games
were tough, especially with the participation of athletes from- the
eastern and southern Pacific regions.
