Philippine Visas While You Wait
For Brunei ICI Holders
By Tony Alabastro
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Holders of Brunei International Certificates of
Identity (ICI) may now get their visas to travel to the Philippines
upon application, the Philippine Embassy announced yesterday.
The Philippine Department of
Foreign Affairs (DFA) has allowed holders of Brunei ICI to apply for
their visas at the Philippine Embassy in Brunei or any Philippine
Foreign Service Post without the DFA's prior authorisation, the
embassy said in a statement.
Philippine Ambassador to Brunei
Virginia H Benavidez had made numerous representations with the DFA
over the past year for the exemption of Brunei ICI holders from the
requirement of obtaining authorisation before the approval of their
visa applications.
"We hope this amendment in the
Philippine government's visa rules and regulations will further
boost tourist arrivals into the Philippines, encourage more
permanent residents in Brunei to consider the Philippines as a
travel destination, and allow those with relatives in the
Philippines to be with them more often," said Ambassador Benavidez.-- Courtesy of Borneo
