Saudi Third Highest In Aiding
Pakistan

Begawan – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the third highest
country in terms of rendering and extending aid, donations and relief
efforts to its sister state, Pakistan when an earthquake struck the
country on October 8.
Saudi relief efforts are as follows:
A relevant directive was issued for
allocating an amount of $US10,000,000 for providing material
assistance to the victims of the Pakistan's earthquake.
Following the directive, an airbridge
was launched that airlifted huge amounts of carpets, pillows,
blankets, tents, medicines, food substances and other relief items, in
addition to a field hospital, which was set-up near the disaster site
providing medical services.
Another directive was issued for
granting an amount of 500 million Saudi Riyals through the Saudi
Development Fund for the
re-construction and rebuilding of earthquake-affected infrastructure
especially schools, building, public utilities, road-network and
hospitals.
A royal directive was issued by the
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, to
launch an around-nation public telethon campaign "through the Saudi
official TV channel", that collected a total amount of 450,000,000
Saudi Riyal, of which 300,000,000 Saudi Riyal was from cash donations,
while the rest were material donations.
An annual allocation of dates to the
World Food Programme for 2005 was handed over to be distributed to
earthquake victims.
In addition, 700,000,000 Saudi Riyals
was allocated by the Saudi Development Fund in the form of easyrepay
loans, to Pakistan to finance developmental projects in the next five
years. --
