Flash Floods Hits Sultanate

Bandar Seri Begawan - Many parts of Brunei have experienced heavy rain these past few months. Some parts of the country have had floods especially in low-lying areas.

According to the recent Meteorological Department's report, Brunei is currently experiencing a tropical depression.

The Kampong Lamunin in the Tutong District and some part of its surrounding areas were in unundated by flood waters today following the incessant downpour since early this morning. The lowlaying areas were especially affected where houses were located near a river.

Usually the amount of rainfall will gradually increases towards the end of year bringing with it thunderstorms usually from late afternoon until mid-night or at times over the predawn period. However the numbers of areas usually affected during this rainy season are now low due to the proper and maintained drainage systems.

Meanwhile road users are advised to have extra precautionary measures especially during the current prevailing weather conditions. Brunei is experiencing wet weather since last month and this means it is going to be even more treacherous than usual.

While driving along the roads in rural areas, drivers must always aware that the roads might be flooded due to the overflow of the drainage system, especially after a heavy rainfall.  -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
