Red Tide Hits Brunei’s Fish Sales

Bandar Seri Begawan - Exceptionally rough sea conditions and Red Tide still affect some parts of Brunei waters and the sale of fish in the country. Fewer customers visit the local wet markets these days.

Radio Television Brunei’s crew was at the Gadong Wet Market this morning to have a closer look. Normally at this time of the day, the wet market will be filled with customers, but not recently, and obviously not today.

Apparently this could be attributed to fear among the people that the fish are being contaminated.

The Jerudong Beach Fish Stalls also suffers similar fate. Here too, customers are wary that they could end up buying contaminated fish. Some full-time fish mongers said that the sale of fish has gone down since the occurance of the Red Tide. They said that they were time when there were no customers at all. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
