Nation-Wide Joint Ops On Xmas Eve

Bandar Seri Begawan – As part of a continued effort to maintain peace and security in the Sultanate, a joint operation led by the district crime officer of Bandar Police Station was conducted Saturday night.

Also involved in the operation were enforcement officers from the Royal Brunei Customs and Excise Department, officers from the Internal Security Department as well as CID personnel from Bandar Police Station.

Among the areas targeted during the three-hour operation included houses and rooms rented by foreign workers as well as a barrack in Bunut.

Customs officers confiscated a sizeable amount of liquor after some people were unable to produce the required permits. Three foreigners were also brought in to the police station for further questioning on suspicion of immigration offences. They were released the same night after their immigration documents were verified.

The operation was to ensure that foreign workers abide by the rules and regulations in the country especially during their Christmas Eve celebrations. It was also a follow up to complaints from public members regarding unhealthy activities.

Meanwhile, another large-scale joint operation was conducted at Muara area led by ASP Sahri, the Acting Officer Commanding Police District Muara cum District Crime Officer.

It involved 110 personnel from Muara Police Station, Immigration Enforcement Division, Religious Affairs Enforcement Unit, Royal Brunei Customs and Excise Department, and the Labour Department.

The Muara raid, which was part of a nationwide operation, targeted several areas including Kg Sabun, Kg Meragang, Tanah Jambu and Kg Salar.

Twenty foreigners who failed to produce valid travel document were rounded up during the three-hour operation and brought to the police station. Six were detained for further investigation, while the rest were released after employers showed up at the station and produced valid documents.

Acting Officer Commanding Police District MuaraASP Sahri advised foreign workers in the country to hold copies of their personal identification documents, as it helps relevant authorities carry out their duties efficiently.

During the operation, two roadblocks were conducted at Kg Salar and the highway leading to Muara, where several compounded cases such as car modifications were recorded. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
