Red Tide Alert Brunei Waters

Bandar Seri Begawan – The Fisheries Department stated that the waters, of Brunei Darussalam are still affected by the Red Tide. The affected areas are Pelong Rocks, Pancang Hijau, Pancang Merah, Lubuk Simpur, Pelompang areas, Pantai Serasa, near Pulau Bedukang areas and near the Tugu areas, RTB reported yesterday.

The public, especially fishermen is banned from catching and harvesting of small planktivorous fish such as sardines, mackerels, shads, anchovies, trevallies, scads, kirang-kirang, Dayang-Dayang, Paragiyang, Minyak-Minyak and molluscan shellfish as well as collecting dead fish from affected areas.

The public is also advised to abstain from eating fish and shellfish of unknown origin. As an important precautionary measure, the public is reminded to completely remove the guts, gills and other internal organs of fish before cooking.

Meanwhile, the Department of Fisheries will keep the public informed of the current situation from time to time.
