Boost In Auto Sales

Begawan – Brunei's automobile sales till November has already
surpassed the grand total figure last year, indicating a healthy
growth in the industry, latest official figures stated.
Statistics from the Brunei Auto
Trader Association (BATA) revealed that a grand total of 13,553 units
have been sold, surpassing last year's figure of 13,200 units and
8,407 units in 2003.
To date, March and October recorded
the strongest sales performance so far this year with 1,407 and 1,402
units respectively.
However November recorded the lowest
figure with. 1,008 units. Toyota still dominated the local market
share with 3,159 units being sold to date, followed by Hyundai with
1,765 and Kia with 1,192 units.
On the less brighter side, five
continental cars from 20 distributors representing 30 manufacturers
are yet to record any single car sale with another five models, out of
which three are continental cars, recorded less than 10 units.
The figure also recorded that the
biggest gain coming from 1000-1300cc~exigine capacity segment which,
remains
the most popular model among the
local buyers followed by the 1300-1500cc and 1501-1600cc.
Figures obtained from an established
auto dealer in the country stated that for the past 15 years, the
average registration of cars in the sultanate has been around 10,000
units per year.
The highest registration so far was
recorded in 1997 with some 14,299 units with the lowest being in 2000
with 6,189 units.
It is estimated that there are some
100,000 to 110,000 units on the road today. Brunei is considered a
highly saturated market with one car for every 3.5 persons. --
