Deadly Red Tide Menace On Again

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Fisheries Department says that the waters off Brunei are still affected by the Red Tide.

The areas are Pelong Rocks, Pancang Hijau, Pancang Merah, Lubuk Simpur, Pelompong areas, Pantai Serasa, near Pulau Bedukang areas and near the Tuqu areas.

The public, especially fishermen are banned from catching and harvesting of small planktivorous fish such as sardines, mackerels, shads, anchovies, trevallies, scads, kirang-kirang, Dayang-Dayang, Paragiyang, Minyak-Minyak and molluscan shellfish as well as collecting dead fish from affected waters.

The public is also advised to abstain from eating fish and shellfish of unknown origin. As an important precautionary measure, the public is reminded to completely remove the guts, gills and other internal organs of fish before cooking.

Meanwhile, the Department of Fisheries will keep the public informed of the current situation from time to time.
