First Batch Of Taiwanese Mandarins
Heading For Brunei

Begawan – Taiwanese fruit exporters have penetrated the Brunei
market, with the first batch of mandarin oranges from Tungshih,
Taichung being shipped to the Sultanate last Thursday, CAN reported.
More than 200 metric tonnes of
mandarin oranges from the central Taiwanese county have been ordered
by local fruit importers.
Liu Hsing-chuan, chairman of Tungshih
Farmers' Association in Taichung, noted that the mandarin oranges
cultivated in Tunghih township are well known for their juiciness and
sweet flavour.
Liu said the mandarin oranges to be
exported abroad have al I met Taiwan's sanitary and quarantine
requirements.
Previously, the Sultanate's supply of
mandarin oranges came from China.
Statistics obtained from the
Agriculture Department showed that Brunei imported 923,105 kilogrammes
of mandarin oranges in 2000. --
