Air Asia Offering Two Million Free
Seats Fro Anniversary
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan – To mark its fourth anniversary, AirAsia is offering
two million free seats, excluding airport taxes, fees and fuel
surcharges, which travellers must pay.
This has nevertheless caused Filipino
workers (OFWs) in the Sultanate to make many bookings for the chance
to go home free of charge.
Travellers
from Brunei Darussalam need to go to Kota Kinabalu for a flight to
Clark in Manila.
They can either use the national
carrier RBA or Malaysian Airlines.
Others may consider boat or road
journeys to KK.
To be eligible for the free seats,
bookings must be done online at www.airasia.com or via
mobile.airasia.com (available on GPRS, 3Q EDGE mobile phone or
wireless device) before Dec. 28, 2005, for travels between Feb. 7 and
Oct. 10, 2006.
Apart from for a free return trip,
some Filipinos also booked flights to give their families the golden
opportunity of visiting Brunei.
However, some prospective travellers
to other destinations could not get the free seats easily, as they
have been heavily booked.
The airline, meanwhile, advised the
public to book early to avoid disappointment, as seats would be
limited and may not be available on all flights or during public
holidays, school breaks and weekends.
"This is the first time AirAsia has
launched a major regional marketing campaign of such magnitude, and it
will be the biggest online free seats campaign ever offered in Asia,"
said AirAsia Bhd's Executive Vice-President (Commercial) Kathleen Tan
in a statement.
"Our Internet booking has increased
to 65 per cent in the last four years and the two million giveaway
seats are our way of saying a big `Thank you' to those who had
supported the airline and contributed to its success," she remarked.
Tan added that AirAsia has carried 15
million passengers in the region, and the offer would enable more
Asians to travel by air. --
