Police Issue Festive Warning To
Road Users

Begawan – The Royal Brunei Police Force stressed on road safety
especially during the current festive mood. All these should not only
be practised during a festive period but at all times to curb road
accidents, Police said.
This was highlighted by Snr Supt. Abd
Rahim Hj Mohd Noor, Acting Director of Road Traffic and Investigation
Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force in a recent press
conference.
Road users should nurture an
understanding that road safety is a joint responsibility, between all
road users drivers and pedestrians. In this context, respect among
those on the road is paramount, he said.
The police also advised road users to
know drivers' rights on the road such as stopping at traffic lights,
giving way, being cooperative and patient.
They must also be cautious when
overtaking especially at highways, school, bends and the long white
line. Motorists are also advised not to overtake at prohibited areas
such as bends and to slow-down when entering villages.
They reminded on getting ready to
stop when yellow lights glow, not to rush, to abide by the speed
limit, to be cautious during heavy downpour when the road is slippery
and to ensure the wiper is functioning well.
The car must also be in good
condition before use by inspecting tyres, wipers and lights. They are
also urged to fasten seat belts, avoid using mobile phones while on
the road and to pull over when answering the phone.
Parents were also advised not to let
non-licensed offsprings drive. Drivers must also be able to control
their vehicles which means that they should not drive when sleepy.
Drivers must not tail too closely,
but give a reasonable distance in the event the driver makes a sudden
stop. Pedestrians are also advised to be cautious when crossing the
road and to use crossing zones or flyovers.

Hj Bakar, Acting Head of the Public Relations Office of the police
force advised employers to furnish their foreign workers with copies
of documents and passports.
This helps to facilitate the
enforcement officers when conducting spot check and raid at the
quarters or job sites. --
