Bad Weather Bring Hardship To Many

Bandar Seri Begawan - The current unsettled weather conditions followed by incessant heavy rains a cause of concern to a number of people in the sultanate. For those who reside in low laying areas or at foothills, this is the time to brace up against flash floods or landslip.

According to the Fire Services Department, they have received a number of emergency calls pertaining to land erosion and flood as of early this month.

A resident of Kampong Tanah Jambu has voiced out concern of the occurrence of a landslip in her compound that she blamed on the man made river that runs nearby.

The situation, however, could endanger the occupants of the house if prompt preventive measures are not taken. According to Dayang HajahAisah binti Haji Abdul Rahman the landslip began six months ago and the recent heavy downpour that inundated the area aggravated the erosion even more.

She has since reported the matter to the authorities concerned and hope that immediate action would be taken because the erosion is taking place only meters from her house. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
