Brunei Does Well In Borneo Games

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei's contingent to the Borneo Games in Sabah returned home late yesterday to a tumultuous welcome from relatives and friends.

They were warmly greeted on arrival at the Brunei International Airport for their success in securing eight gold 13 silver and 18 bronze medals.

The Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Awang Sumadi bin Sukaimi was among the welcoming party.

According to Chef de Mission, Awang Haji Haris bin Othman, overall the performance of Brunei's athletes at the Borneo Games was very satisfactory.

However, he stressed that the sportsmen and sportswomen need to further upgrade their feats by continuing with their intensive training even though they obtained gold medals in certain events.

Awang Haji Haris said that the victory accomplished at the Borneo Games does not mean the athletes could stop training. In fact this is the more reason for them to continue undergoing intensive training to excel in all events to be competed.  -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
